Improving Indeed’s Search and Job Quality

At Indeed, our mission drives everything we do: we help people get jobs. Providing job seekers with the best possible experience is what keeps them coming back to Indeed. It’s also what makes us the best place for employers to find the right fit every day.

As we have shared in the past, we are constantly striving to improve the job seeker’s experience. Our Search Quality team is dedicated to reviewing jobs to make sure they are of the highest quality and provide the kind of experience we believe everyone deserves. This includes ensuring jobs contain accurate information and provide easy access to job details and contact information. Also important is ensuring companies don’t use posting practices that unfairly inflate job visibility and adversely affect job seekers, such as reposting or posting jobs in locations other than where the employee will actually work.

Change in job visibility in US and Canada

Every year, Indeed investigates thousands of complaints from job seekers reporting poor quality jobs. Over time, our Search Quality team has identified a number of persistent problems with jobs from recruitment-based companies, including high rates of duplication, reposting, location blasting and inaccurate job descriptions.

Because of this, as of January 7, 2019, jobs sent to Indeed sites in the US and Canada from recruitment-based companies will no longer be eligible for inclusion in organic search results. They will, however, continue to be eligible for promotion as sponsored jobs.

Providing the best search experience for job seekers

Only showing high quality jobs remains a top priority for us, and we are constantly striving to balance the needs of job seekers with those of the organizations that recruit on Indeed. Analysis shows that impacted jobs represent approximately 5% of applies but just 2% of hires on Indeed. We believe this decision is in the best interest of the job seeker and will enhance their search experience.
