How does local news work? It takes a team of talented people, all dedicated to telling the stories that matter to their community.
With a 30-year history in broadcasting, ZGS Communications is a multimedia company that owns and operates nine Spanish-language television stations, representing the largest group of independent stations affiliated with the Telemundo television network. Their local news programs serve Spanish-speaking communities in key markets all over the country.
In Tampa, FL, one of their largest markets, ZGS wanted to quickly get a local news team up and running. They partnered with Indeed to source positions ranging from the News Director to Sportscasters. The candidates they were looking for had to be bilingual, with a background in broadcasting and with strong writing and communication skills in both Spanish and English — in a few words, hard-to-find talent.
In just three months, ZGS hired 80% of their Tampa news team from Indeed, with the remaining hires coming from internal referrals.
The fast pace at which the company was able to hire these candidates had them ready to cover the mid-term elections. “This is a brand new team and they had incredible coverage over the elections, so that’s been a huge launch for us,” says Ronald Gordon, President and CEO. “Local news, at the end of the day, gives a station an incredible tool to market and to connect with the community. It’s a fun business for starters but on top of that, it’s about people and making a difference in people’s lives.”
