Job postings rose last quarter

Indeed’s Industry Employment Trends report shows that job postings increased over the quarter in every major industry tracked, but softened in June. Job postings declined slightly over the month in six of the major industries.

Amid recent reports of weak retail sales and consumer confidence, retail job postings declined 4% in June, the largest monthly decline among the industries we track, but ended the quarter up 4%. We’ll watch this industry closely in the coming months to see if hiring demand increases heading into the back-to-school shopping season.

Real Estate

The industry with the least number of job postings, real estate, had the largest percentage increase over the quarter, up 17%. June marked the fifth straight month of real estate job posting gains. Property manager, leasing consultant, and mortgage loan officer were among the job titles receiving the most clicks from job seekers.

Hospitality job postings increased 12% over the quarter and 43% since June 2011, the largest year-over-year gain among the industries we track.  Job seeker clicks on hospitality industry postings grew 25% over the year, with the most popular titles including housekeeper, host, and bartender.
