Indeed’s five year anniversary

Indeed is five years old this month! Our launch, in November 2004, radically changed the way people search for jobs: for the first time, you could instantly search millions of jobs from thousands of job boards and corporate career sites.

Our goals are to continue to be the best and most comprehensive place on the web to search for jobs, to help millions of people find jobs and enable employers to source millions of qualified candidates.

All of us at Indeed would like to thank those who have given us their support over the last five years – including job seekers, advertisers, partners and commentators – allowing Indeed to become what it is today:

• The #1 employment website in the US by job search unique visitors and page views (comScore Media Metrix, Oct 2009).

• Websites in 19 countries and 10 languages.

• 24 million unique visitors and one billion job searches per month worldwide.

• The leading pay-for-performance recruitment advertising network.

• The source of thousands of success stories from job seekers and recruitment advertisers.

• A leading data provider, including Job Analytics, job trends, industry trends, job market competition, and salaries.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we wish you the very best for the holidays.

What do I want this holiday season? A job!

Each year, the US holiday season is preceded by a boost in hiring among retailers and package shippers. Considering the changing state of the job market, we wondered how this year’s holiday hiring season compared to last year’s.

Below are rankings of the top holiday keywords and companies in October 2009 and the changes since a year ago. Against a backdrop of overall hiring decline, rising keywords include Sales Associate, Cosmetics and Stock Room.

Rising companies are shown below and include AT&T and UPS, both of which moved up four positions since last year.

We hope this information will help you focus on holiday opportunities that are still showing promise. If you’re looking for holiday-related work this season, explore the links above and try other keywords with our Job Trends. Also, don’t forget to use our Salary Search to prepare for your interviews.
